Many states in India had a Right to Information Act in place before the Central act came into being. How do these various state acts compare with each other? This is an important question because a reader can now understand how refined the current Central act is in its present form. Also, doubts as to whether a Central act was at all required will be dispelled by this comparison which will shed light on how each state act differed from another in ways and how there was a serious lack of standardization which in turn only made accessing information harder for the citizen; the very reason why the act came into being.
