	Misuse of ultrasound scan centreS The Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act (PC & PNDT Act) can answer your concerns. In case of ultrasound scan centre, key document is “Form F” that has a consent form from the patient declaring that she has not detected the sex of her unborn child and medical professional affirmation that the scan was not done for sex selection. Irregularities in record keeping as per revised form ‘F’ are a major offence. punishable U/s 23(1) of the PNDT Act. A written complaint has to be made to the Appropriate Authority (AA), which has to acknowledge receipt. AA has to take action within 15 days of lodging the complaint. A complainant can approach the designated Appropriate Authority of the State or district or sub district. The Appropriate Authority at the State level is a high ranking health department official above the rank of Joint Director of Health and Family Welfare. Rule 17(3) of the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Rules, 1996 provides: ‘The Appropriate Authority, the Central Government, the State Government, and the Government/ Administration of the Union Territory may publish periodically lists of registered Genetic Counselling Centres, Genetic Laboratories, Genetic Clinics, Ultrasound Clinics and Imaging Centres and findings from the reports and other information in their possession, for the information of the public and for use by the experts in the field.” Back
